Food Distribution Program

The Food Distribution Program is a United States Department of Agriculture Program administered by the San Carlos Apache Tribe’s (SCAT) Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS). 

This program provides healthy food to households living on the San Carlos Apache Reservation or within 30 miles of the SCAT Reservation.

SCAT Tribal members may qualify for the Food Distribution Program depending on income reporting. Households who receive SNAP Benefits are not eligible to participate in the Food Distribution Program.

  • On a month-to-month basis, you will receive a commodity food “package” containing canned foods: meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and juices.
  • Also included are dry goods: beans, pastas, flour, corn meal, rice and others.
  • Each person in your household is entitled to one food package per month.

Filing an Application

Application Forms are available at the Food Distribution Office located on San Carlos Avenue.

A completed form can be returned to the FDP Office in person or by mail. You will be contacted and interviewed, and if eligible, you can receive a food package on the same day.’

Required Documents:

  • Identification (Tribal ID/C.I.B./State I.D)
  • Proof of income (2 recent paystubs (paid biweekly), 4 paystubs (paid weekly) or Social Security Award Letter
  • 1 Utility Bill (Gas, Electric, Water, Trash or Phone bills)
  • Legal Documents (Care of grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc.)
  • Zero-Income Form (must sign if no income)

Food Distribution Program Eligibility

Your eligibility for the Food Distribution Program is based on how much income you earned minus deductions.


Deductions include

20% of monthly earned income (gross amount)

Cost of child care or care for a disabled individual (if these services are needed so that a household member can work, look for a job, on-the-job training or attending school)
